2026 Supporter Opportunities with ACCM

What is Culinary Medicine?

Culinary medicine is a multifaceted field that bridges the gap between the most up-to-date, evidence-based nutrition science and culinary tradition.  It is based on food is medicine principles: the augmentation of nutrition in conventional medicine to maintain health and to prevent and treat disease.

Who uses Culinary Medicine:

  • Healthcare Professional Education & training: medical school and allied-health curricula (e.g., Health meets Food) and continuing education/CME.
  • Clinical care: patient counseling, e-consults, and hands-on group medical appointments in teaching kitchens.
  • Foodservice Professionals: Culinary medicine is the cost-conscious, smart solution to good health based on nutrition science and classical culinary techniques.
  • Community partnerships: teaching kitchens linked with food pantries and medically supportive meal programs.

These models are increasingly billable and reimbursed in major health systems, demonstrating a scalable path for culinary medicine.
