Free Community Cooking Classes!

Thank you for your interest in our free community cooking classes! These hands-on cooking classes are free and open to the public but we ask that you commit to the classes once you sign up.

Our FREE hands-on cooking classes take place in our state-of-the-art teaching kitchen at 300 N. Broad Street in New Orleans. In our classes, you will join other community members in working alongside chefs and medical students from the Tulane School of Medicine to learn how to make DELICIOUS and FLAVORFUL food, that just so happens to be good for you. You’ll learn simple, healthful concepts to tie into your home kitchen while practicing basic cooking skills in a kitchen setting. This isn’t limited to cooking, however: you’ll also learn all the tools and techniques to effectively meal plan, shop, and eat on a budget. Together we will discuss how different foods and techniques can help you eat well, get healthy, and stay healthy! Even better, at the end of each class we get to eat all the delicious dishes we cook!

There are a total of 6 adult classes, and each class runs 2 hours, and we have a beginner and intermediate series. You must be 13 to sign up for these classes, and children are not permitted in the kitchen during class (we do offer children’s classes). These classes are free, but we do ask that you commit to the series in its entirety, attending at least 75% of the classes scheduled. We do offer, and encourage, alternative times to make up missed classes.

We also offer cooking classes for the kids, which are free as well! These classes run for an hour each, for 5 weeks. Supervised by adults, kids learn basic nutrition concepts and make their own treats in a hands-on setting. They take home recipes and key concepts learned in that lesson to share with their family. Classes are open for kids aged 6-12.

For both adult and kids classes, participants are  generally  expected to show up at the same time for class once a week for the duration of the schedule. Classes run in both the evening and daytime, on weekdays and weekends. We try to run a variety to fit everyone’s schedules.
