MISSION AND VISION

The Samueli Foundation strives to create societal value by investing innovative, entrepreneurial and sustainable ideas. Our vision is to be a resource for organizations that empower people to more fully realize their potential, and our core values include a belief in and a commitment to creative, entrepreneurial and sustainable approaches to:

  • Leveraging education, knowledge and scientific inquiry as key social change agents
  • Promoting the needs of the “whole individual” body, mind and spirit
  • Promoting Jewish culture and values

INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

In line with the mission of the Samueli Foundation, the Samueli family founded the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine in 2001, which enabled the University of California, Irvine (UCI) to launch innovative research and education programs dedicated to furthering integrative medicine.

The center is devoted to improving the way health care is delivered. Armed by evidence-based scientific research and education, clinical providers integrate the best of Western scientific medicine with scientifically proven complementary therapies to attend to the body, mind, spirit and community. The center’s pioneering model of care includes a wide-ranging group of clinical services, classes and training that is focused on restoring health and providing customized, thorough, enduring support over time.

The Samueli Center has become internationally renowned for its research, clinical care and education programs including:

  • A fully integrated clinic offering family medicine, acupuncture, naturopathy, therapeutic massage, nutritional counseling, preventive cardiology and other services.
  • Pace setting research on longevity, food as medicine, acupuncture as a treatment for lowering blood pressure, and metabolic syndrome.
  • Educational programs reaching clinical practitioners, medical and nursing students and the general public on topics ranging from Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition, mind-body, supplements and herbs, to healthy aging.

CULINARY MEDICINE

Culinary Medicine is one of several Integrative Medicine projects offered through the UCI Department of Family Medicine and Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine. Among the center’s culinary medicine projects are courses for medical students and residents, and classes for patients at the Santa Ana Family Health Center and the center’s clinic in Costa Mesa. The center also supports the partnership between UCI’s Santa Ana Family Health Center and the 2nd Harvest Food Bank of Orange to provide groceries including fresh produce to 220 families the first Saturday of every month.
