Growing up in both China and UK, I was fortunate to immerse myself in the distinctive cultures of both East and West. Hearing stories, learning languages, and sharing the universal love of food are some of my favorite things to do when I meet people with diverse backgrounds. My passion for making personal connections compelled me to give up a prior career in engineering after I graduated with a bachelor degree in computer science from the George Washington University, and to stay at the university and pursue a doctorate in medicine instead. I later trained in the diverse city of San Francisco, at the internal medicine residency program at Kaiser Permanente. Now I am practicing primary care at Kaiser Permanente after returning to the DC metro area.
I firmly believe that being a good physician requires one to practice the craft of science as well as to walk the path of humanity. As a primary care physician, I want to be there for my patients when they are sick. But more importantly, I want to be there to make sure my patients stay healthy. Healthy eating plays a key role in maintaining good health. Healthy food should not taste bland or monotone. In fact, it should be just as delicious and diverse as the food of the world.
