Biosketch
Dr. Allison Jordan received her medical degree with Distinction in Research from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. During her training, she completed a year-long Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship in the departments of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. After graduating from medical school she completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina and served as Chief Resident in her 5th year of training. Dr. Jordan then attended the University of Pittsburgh where she completed her fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and received a Certificate in Medical Education.
She has worked as an associate medical director at Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a staff physician at Family Hospice and Palliative Care in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and an associate medical director at Hospice and Palliative CareCenter in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and BJC Hospice. She is currently the medical director of palliative medicine services at Christian Hospital. In addition, Dr. Jordan is an assistant professor of clinical medicine at Washington University School of Medicine. Her research has been published in the Journal of Maternal Fetal Neonatal Medicine, Harvard Review of Psychiatry, the American Journal of Palliative Medicine, and the Journal of Palliative Medicine. She has recently written two book chapters related to mental health and palliative care. She is the past-chair of the Psychosocial and Mental Health Special Interest Group for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine for 2017-2018. Dr. Jordan has an interest in clinical informatics and has completed training in Basic, Advanced, Analytics, and Healthy Planet (population health) as an Epic Physician Builder in 2019. Dr. Jordan’s diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer in December 2018 fueled her interest in wellness and she will be taking her culinary medicine certification exam in July 2021. In September, Dr. Jordan will be joining the tele-mental health team at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC where she will combine her interests in telemedicine, palliative care, psychiatry, and informatics to provide innovative care to our nation’s veterans.
When not caring for patients and families living with serious illness, Dr. Jordan enjoys cooking, baking, exercise, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
